We are in the area around one of the most important rivers in the Eloro District : Manghisi River. The man has inhabited this area since ancient times. History is evident here through every individual trace that each community has left behind.
There are traces of Arab communities who inhabited this area in the late Middle Ages. Traces of Christianity are visible in the ruins of a large church cave devasted by the earthquake. Also, Arabic writings are visible in some caves called Dieri. These are amazing little caves in the cliffs of the canyon. You can find an example of this in Cava Grande del Cassibile or in Baulì area between Noto and Palazzolo.
It is also possible in this area to find a chapel with a water source outlet and an inscription engraved in the Greek language. Still visible on the walls are vague traces of frescoes. The community of San Marco monks already settled on the high ground in medieval times, attending the site even during the Middle Ages.
In the end, the area is much bigger and it was chosen as a possible exploratory site. We suggest that you contact a local guide, albeit, our Team is also working towards creating a particular Map with more specific coordinates within this vast and extremely interesting area.
